Coronavirus disease and the DidSci2020 conference

Dear Colleagues,

due to coronavirus disease, we were forced to change the form of the conference and move it into virtual space. We decided to organise the distant conference within the dates previously set for the stationary event  (June 17-19, 2020). We are planning to use the Microsoft Teams application for oral presentations and discussion. It requires the participants are equipped with the hardware which allows at least voice connection (for example notebook with built-in microphone; video connections are also welcome) to be able to actively participate in the event.

We plan about 20 minutes for each contribution – 12 minutes for shared presentation with voice comments + possibly a view from the presenter's camera and 8 minutes for discussion.

We know that this form of conference is not perfect but taking into account the dynamically changing situation it seems that it is better to meet in such limited opportunities than not to meet at all. We believe that at the next conference we will make up for this lack of personal contacts.

Since the costs of virtual event are much lower than stationary one, we have reduced the conference fee to 50 euros, which will be mainly allocated to cover publishing costs.

By plane
The John Paul II International Airport in Balice is located 15 km (approx. 10 miles) from the city centre. The train service provided by PKP is the fastest link between the centre of Krakow and the airport. More information is available at airport website

You can also fly to Warsaw and Katowice. From Warsaw's main railway station you can take an InterCity or an Express train; the journey takes about 3 hours. To request a taxi from the airport to the railway station, go to one of the approved taxi company desks in the airport arrivals hall or take bus. A train ticket will cost about 150 PLN for second class and may be purchased at the Orbis office at the airport or at the train station itself. From Katowice airport you can take minivan to Krakow's city center, but please make a reservation for it when you buy your ticket.

By train
There are direct international railway connections to Krakow from Austria (Vienna), the Czech Republic (Prague), Germany (Berlin, Dresden, Frankfurt/M, Frankfurt/O, Leipzig), Hungary (Budapest), Rumania (Bucharest), Slovakia (Bratislava, Kosice), and Ukraine (Kiev, Lvov, Odessa). Krakow is also linked with all other main towns and cities in Poland. The railway station is in the centre of the town, close to the area in which most of the hotels are situated. If you arrive by train and want to take a taxi we would advise you call for a radio-taxi or take one from the stand on the rooftop parking above the railway station (reachable by stairs or elevator from any of the platforms). Rates of taxis in front of the station's main building are more expensive. The train schedule is available on the railway company's web page (see PKP or on the Hafas page).

By car
Krakow is located close to important roads, highways and at the crossroads of E7 (linking the North with the South) and E4 (linking the West with the East). One may also travel to Krakow along the A4 highway running from the West through Silesia. There are several parking areas in the centre of Krakow.
